Thomas Blount (May 10, 1759 – February 7, 1812) was an American Revolutionary War veteran and statesman from the state of North Carolina. ==Biography== He was born at ''Blount Hall'', in what is now Pitt County, North Carolina and was educated at home. At the age of 16, Blount entered the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. Captured during the conflict, he was among those prisoners of war shipped to England for detention. After the war, he returned to North Carolina. He engaged in the mercantile business in Tarboro a rapidly growing port city on the fall line. In 1788, he was elected to the State House of Commons. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, serving during 1793–1799, 1805–1809, 1811–1812 (he lost elections in 1802 and 1808). He died in office and is interred in the Congressional Cemetery in Washington, D.C.. He was the brother of William Blount and the uncle of William Grainger Blount. His wife, Mary J.
